Michael Kaul (athlete)

Michael Kaul (born July 25, 1967 in Mainz ) is a former German athlete . In 1993 he was German champion in the 400-meter hurdles .

Michael Kaul began his sporting career in 1982 at LAZ Nieder-Olm , from 1988 he was at USC Mainz . In 1992 he reached the final of the German Championships for the first time and finished third in 49.76 seconds behind Olaf Hense and Carsten Köhrbrück . The following year he won the German Championships in Duisburg in 50.39 seconds ahead of Edgar Itt . At the Universiade 1993 he was eliminated in the interim.

In 1994 Michael Kaul took second place at the German Championships behind Edgar Itt in a personal best of 49.55 seconds . At the European Championships in 1994 he ran 50.04 seconds in the lead and then retired in the interim. In 1995 Olaf Hense won the German Championships , followed by Kaul in 49.99 seconds. At the Universiade in 1995 and at the World Championships in 1995 , he was eliminated in the preliminary stages. In 1996 Kaul was once again fourth in the German championships .

In 1997 Michael Kaul married the Austrian athlete Stefanie Zotter . In 1998 their son Niklas Kaul was born, who, trained by his parents, became world champion in the decathlon in 2019. He is a teacher by profession and works (2020) as head of department in the Supreme School Inspectorate in the Ministry of Education in Rhineland-Palatinate .
