Michael Kelly (born March 29, 1872 in Galway , Ireland , † May 3, 1923 in Koblenz ) was an American sports marksman .

Career

Michael Kelly took part in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . With the army revolver, he was Olympic champion in the team competitions over 30 and over 50 m , both competitions were won by the American team by a larger margin. Karl Frederick , Alfred Lane and James Snook were among his competitors in both teams, while Raymond Bracken over 30 m and Louis Harant over 50 m were part of the contest.

Kelly, who was born in Galway in the west of Ireland in 1872 , emigrated to the United States in 1888 , where he first worked as a worker in New York before enrolling in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1893 . There he rose to sergeant . In 1920, shortly before the Olympic Games, he received citizenship of the United States . Shortly after the Games, he said goodbye to the army and settled in Koblenz, where he died in 1923 at the age of 51.
