Michael Lichtwarck-Aschoff

Michael Lichtwarck-Aschoff (* 1946 ) is a German doctor and writer.

Life

Lichtwarck-Aschoff was born in the Isar valley and initially studied philosophy for four semesters at the University of Hamburg in 1966/67 as a scholarship holder of the Hamburg Patriotic Society and then decided to study medicine. From 1966 to 1973 he studied on a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU) and was approved in 1974.

During his work as an assistant doctor in the field of anesthesia at the University Hospital Augsburg from 1974 to 1979, he completed his specialist training in anesthesia in 1978. Since 1979 he has been a senior physician at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine at the Augsburg Clinic, was also a visiting physician at the intensive care unit of the University Hospital Basel in 1979 and at the intensive care unit of the Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève in 1981 .

During his time as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Experimental Surgery at the Technical University of Munich from 1988 to 1991, he received his doctorate from the TU in 1990. He also became a visiting researcher in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Uppsala University Hospital in 1988 . In March 1994 he also obtained his PhD in Anesthesia in Uppsala and in February 1997 he became Associate Professor of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine there. In May 2002 he was also granted the license to teach anesthesiology from the LMU and has been teaching at Munich University since 2007 as an adjunct professor of anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. He also taught at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

After his retirement at the end of 2011, he devoted himself to writing. He is married with two children and lives in Stadtbergen .
