Michael Max (born September 18, 1970 in Gmunden , Upper Austria ) is President of the European Council of Priests and was pastor of Neumarkt am Wallersee . As of September 1, 2020 he is rector of the Pontifical Institute Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome.

Life

Michael Max has headed the Flachgau city ​​parish of Neumarkt since September 1, 2005, initially as a parish provisional and since September 2006 as pastor . He is also active as liturgist for the Archdiocese of Salzburg , fire brigade curate of the Neumarkt fire department, board member in the priestly council and spiritual assistant of the Catholic women's movement in the archdiocese of Salzburg.

After studying at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome and at the Institut Catholique de Paris in Paris, he received his doctorate in liturgical science at the end of January 2006.

On October 1, 2008, Michael Max was elected as its new President at the meeting of the European Priestly Council (CCPE) in Basel. He replaces the Swiss Christian Schaller, pastor in Binningen near Basel. The Europe-wide networking of priests is the main concern of the new president. The whole of Europe is a church building site, says the Flachgau pastor and mentions, for example, the parish associations and the aging of the priestly profession. In December 2019 it was announced that he would succeed Franz Xaver Brandmayr as rector of the papal institute Santa Maria dell 'Anima in Rome on September 1, 2020 . Franz Gmainer-Pranzl is to succeed him as rector of the St. Virgil Education Center in Salzburg ; the handover is scheduled for the beginning of September 2020.

Since 2017 he has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association KSHV Lodronia Salzburg in the ÖCV .
