Others

The Mikhailovsky Palace in Saint Petersburg, built from 1819 to 1825 according to plans by Carlo Rossi , was built for the Grand Duke. Today it houses the Russian Museum .

The Mikhailovsky Theater in Saint Petersburg is named after him.

His only surviving child was Grand Duchess Katharina Mikhailovna. Through her marriage to Georg zu Mecklenburg , the youngest son of Grand Duke Georg of Mecklenburg-Strelitz , her descendants became aspirants to the throne of the Grand Duchies of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Mecklenburg-Schwerin .
