Michael Pfrommer

Michael Pfrommer (born January 29, 1954 in Karlsruhe ) is a German classical archaeologist and novelist.

Michael Pfrommer grew up in Nuremberg. Between 1973 and 1979 he studied classical archeology, prehistory and early history as well as ancient history at the University of Erlangen and the University of Munich . He received his doctorate in 1979 under Klaus Parlasca in Erlangen with the thesis Studies on Late Classical and Early Hellenistic Toreutics . In 1980/81 he was a holder of the German Archaeological Institute's travel grant in the Mediterranean region . From 1983 to 1987 Pfrommer worked as a consultant for Classical Archeology at the German Archaeological Institute , Istanbul Department, where he was also involved in excavations in Miletus . In 1983 and 1985 he was able to research for several months as a visiting researcher at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu . From 1988 to 1989 he had a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation ; The habilitation took place in 1990 at the University of Trier with a thesis on the Alexander mosaic . As a Heisenberg scholar , Pfrommer conducted research on the steppe peoples and the Silk Road between 1990 and 1995 . On July 11, 1995, he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Trier. Since 1995 he has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute.

Pfrommer devotes his research to Hellenistic art in particular . He also worked as a specialist in numerous documentaries for ZDF and Arte . He also wrote several historical novels.
