Michael Plum

Michael Plum (born October 2, 1960 ) is a German table tennis player . He was one of the best players in Germany in the early 1980s.

Career

Plum is a defender . In 1977 he won the national ranking tournament "DTTB Top 12" of youth. A year later he became German youth champion and runner-up in doubles with Andreas Assner. In the DTTB top 12 of the juniors, he finished first in 1979 and second in 1980.

Plum began his professional career at TSV Milbertshofen . He later switched to TTC Simex Jülich , where he had his greatest successes. Here he played in the Bundesliga in the top pair cross. In the German rankings, he took third place. In 1982 he played an international match against China. He lost both singles, but managed to win a set against the reigning world champion Guo Yuehua . In September 1982 he was used in the Europa League , where he won and lost a game against the CSSR. Also in the Europa League he went to the 0: 7 defeat against Sweden in January 1983 and was defeated by Erik Lindh . He finished third in the TOP12 national ranking tournament. In 1983 he was nominated for the table tennis world championship . In 1982/83 he won the German Cup with Jülich, and in 1983/84 the team won the European Cup .

Was prescribed as 1984 that the coverings of the racket had to be two-tone, he lost about 90% of his skill level. As a result, he fell from the top to the bottom pair cross of the Bundesliga and even then he hardly won any games. In 1987, Plum moved to VfB Lübeck , a year later he went as a player- coach for the then association league club TTF Bad Honnef . In 1993 he ended his career as a competitive athlete due to a lack of prospects and switched to TTG Lülsdorf-Rheydt. He now shifted his focus to vocational training.

After a break of several years, Plum began again with table tennis in lower-class clubs. In 1999 he joined his home club DJK Teveren (1st district class). He has been playing at TSV Wolsdorf since 2004. After completing his training as a financier, Plum worked in the Bonn Finance Directorate. He is married and has a daughter.
