Michael Rombach

Michael Rombach (* 1967 in Stegen ) is a German physicist and media manager . Since January 2019 he has been production director of the Second German Television . From September 2007 to October 2018 he held the same position at NDR .

Life

Rombach completed in 1986 in Freiburg im Breisgau his High School and then studied physics at the city's Albert-Ludwigs-University . In 1992 he began his doctoral thesis as part of an interdisciplinary study program of the German Research Foundation, which he successfully completed in 1995. Then Rombach was a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials in Freiburg until 1998 . In the following year he moved to SWR and became head of the corporate planning department in Stuttgart . In 2001 in Baden-Baden he became Head of the Central Tasks Department in the Production and Technology Directorate and Deputy Production Director.

On June 15, 2007, the board of directors of NDR Rombach approved the appointment of production director there; he took up his post on September 1 of the same year. His most important projects at NDR included the technical renewal of the ARD-aktuell studio and the switch from DVB-T to DVB-T2 , for which he was in charge as chairman of the ARD production and technology commission between 2013 and 2015. At the end of April 2018 it was announced that Rombach would be moving to ZDF as production director. He took up the post on January 1, 2019 as the successor to Andreas Bereczky . As early as October 31, 2018, he left the NDR as production director.

Rombach has been a member of the board of the German TV platform since 2016 , and in April 2018 he became deputy chairman of the association.
