Michael Rumrich

Michael Rumrich (born July 1, 1965 in Markt Indersdorf ) is a former German ice hockey player .

Career

Rumrich gained his first experience in senior ice hockey in the league season 1983/84 at TEV Miesbach . He then moved to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga for one year at EC Bad Tölz and the Berlin SC Preussen . Although the left-firing winger attracted attention during this time, he only made his breakthrough with his second engagement in Miesbach from 1986 to 1988. He impressed in the league with his commitment and defensive strength. For the season 1988/89 he received a contract with EHC Freiburg in the ice hockey Bundesliga . After he had established himself in the league and twice achieved relegation with the Breisgauer, he switched to league rivals Eintracht Frankfurt . There he managed to qualify for the play-offs with the team , but the club withdrew from the Bundesliga after the season, and Rumrich signed another contract with BSC Preussen. Until 1994 he played at the Berlin club, with which he always reached the semi-finals of the finals.

After founding the DEL , Rumrich switched to the Kölner Haien . With the KEC he celebrated the greatest success of his career when he won the German championship with the team in 1995 . A year later he reached the final again with the Haien, but lost there. For the 1996/97 season , the striker decided to move to the Austrian ice hockey league at EC Kapfenberg . He played there for less than two years before moving back to Germany to ESC Moskitos Essen in the 1997/98 season. In 1999 he made another club change to Heilbronner EC , where he ended his career in 2001 after two more years in the 2nd division.

Rumrich, nicknamed Much by his colleagues, played 341 first division games in his career. He marked 103 goals and gave 137 assists (240 points scorer). He was in the penalty box for 306 minutes. He also had 74 appearances at official internationals. He participated with the national team at the World Championships between 1991 and 1994 and the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992 and in Lillehammer in 1994 .

His younger brother Jürgen was also an ice hockey player and sometimes played with him in Freiburg and Berlin as well as in the national team.

Until August 2011 he worked on the board and management of the Baden-Württemberg club Eisbären Heilbronn. Between 2011 and 2015 he was employed as a manager at the western upper division ESC Moskitos Essen , then for a year as commercial director at EHC Bayreuth .

In the 2016-17 season he worked as a sports director at the southern upper division EHV Schönheide 09 , which filed for bankruptcy after the end of the season.
