Michael Russell (Bishop)
Michael Russell (born December 10, 1920 in Loughmore , County Tipperary , Ireland , † January 12, 2009 in Waterford , County Waterford , Ireland) was Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore .
Life
Michael Russell received his priestly formation in Maynooth and received on 17 June 1945, the priestly ordination . In 1948 he received his doctorate in canon law and was professor of moral theology at St. Patrick's College in Thurles . Until 1965 he was also Vice President of St Patrick's College.
In 1965 Pope Paul VI appointed him . to Bishop of Waterford and Lismore. He received his episcopal ordination on December 19, 1965, the Archbishop of Armagh, William Cardinal Conway ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Giuseppe Maria Sensi , Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland and later Cardinal to the Curia , and Thomas Morris , Archbishop Cashel and Emly. On May 27, 1993, his age-related resignation was granted.
