Giuseppe Maria Sensi
Giuseppe Maria Cardinal Sensi (born May 27, 1907 in Cosenza , Italy , † July 26, 2001 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Giuseppe Maria Sensi studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Cosenza and at various universities in Rome . He holds a doctorate in theology and a doctorate in canon law . He received the sacrament of ordination on December 21, 1929. After further studies, he worked from 1932 for the Council Congregation of the Curia . He then entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican and was secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Romania from 1934 to 1938 . From 1938 to 1946 he performed the same task at the Apostolic Nunciature in Switzerland . From 1946 to 1949 he worked as a consultant for the Apostolic Nunciatures in Belgium and Czechoslovakia . From 1949 to 1953 he worked in the Vatican State Secretariat in the department for the interests of international Catholic organizations. From 1953 to 1955, Giuseppe Maria Sensi was a permanent observer of the Holy See at UNESCO .
On May 21, 1955, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular archbishop of Sardis and the Apostolic Nuncio in Costa Rica . The episcopal ordination received Giuseppe Maria Sensi on 24 July of the same year by the prefect of the Congregation for Religious , Valerio Cardinal Valeri . Co- consecrators were Curia Archbishop Carlo Confalonieri and the Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi .
From 1957 to 1962 he worked as an Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine , and in 1962 he was Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland . From 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council , in 1967 he was apostolic nuncio in Portugal . Pope Paul VI accepted Giuseppe Maria Sensi on May 24, 1976 as a cardinal deacon with the title deaconry Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Sensi attended the conclave in August and October 1978 . In 1987 he was made cardinal priest of Santa Maria Regina Apostolorum .
Giuseppe Maria Cardinal Sensi died on July 26, 2001 in Rome and was buried in his family's chapel in the “Colle Mussano” cemetery in Cosenza.
