Michael Scheike (born September 11, 1963 in Braunschweig ) is a former German soccer player and later coach .
Club career
Scheike began playing football in 1974 in the youth division of Eintracht Braunschweig , and then went through the club's youth and amateur teams. In 1983 he moved up to the professional squad of Eintracht, where he was active from 1983 to 1991 . The defender made 37 Bundesliga appearances in the first two seasons , the first of which was on November 5, 1983: in the game at Bayer 04 Leverkusen (3-0) he was substituted on for Michael Geiger after the half-time break. He scored his only Bundesliga goal on May 18, 1985 in the 2: 3 defeat in Bielefeld for a 2: 2 equalization in the meantime. On June 1, 1985, he made his last Bundesliga game in a 2-1 win at Bayer 05 Uerdingen . After the descent of Braunschweig he remained loyal to the club and completed 84 second division games for Eintracht in the next five years , in which he scored two goals. His only games of the 1990/91 season - on the tenth and eleventh matchdays - were only two short appearances of a few minutes before injury problems forced him to end his career early.
National team
In 1984 Scheike received two appointments to the U-21 national team . On March 27, he came on in Osnabrück in the 1-1 draw against the Soviet Union for Roland Grahammer ; in the following game on April 17, 1984 in the 0-0 against the Greek U-21 selection in Aschaffenburg , he was in the starting line-up, but was substituted for Herbert Hoos .
Coaching career
After his active career, Scheike acquired a coaching license from the DFB and worked, among other things, for two and a half years at a football school in Mallorca . In the 2000/01 season he was briefly responsible for the team of the regional division Rot-Weiss Essen . On July 1, 2005, he became the youth coach of the Braunschweig club HSC Leu 06 . For the 2007/08 season he took over this position at Hannoversche SC , which he ended in February 2008. Scheike has been both coach and chairman of FC Braunschweig since 2011 .
