Michael Steindl (dramaturge)

Michael Josef Steindl (born March 24, 1966 in Traunstein ) is a German dramaturge and theater director .

education

Between 1987 and 1991 Steindl completed a dramaturgy training at the theater academy Spielstatt Ulm , which he completed with the dramaturgy to Goethe's Faust I (director: Ingrid Lausund ). He then began freelance theater work in Ulm and Berlin .

From 1992 he studied theater , film and media studies (minor subjects: German language and literature ; children's and young adult literature ) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1998 he graduated as a Master of Arts .

During his studies in Frankfurt am Main , Steindl worked as a director for the Friedrichsdorf amateur theater group Theater Tabu . The seven directorial works there also include a production of Eugène Ionesco's Die Stühle (1994), which was invited to the 13th Hanau Amateur Theater Festival. In 1994 he directed Georg Büchner's Woyzeck at the Erfurt Children's and Youth Theater , and in 1995 he directed "The gentle guillotine" after Büchner's Danton's death .

Between 1998 and 2004 Steindl was employed as a dramaturge at the Schauspiel Essen (artistic director: Jürgen Bosse ). In addition to working with u. a. Katharina Kreuzhage, Natascha Kalmbach, Matthias Kniesbeck and Jörn Udo Kortmann, he accompanied the youth club Spieltrieb there . The productions "Das brennende Dorf" (by RW Fassbinder based on Lope de Vega ) (director: Jörn Udo Kortmann) from 2001 and "Out of paradise" (2002), based on Imre Madách's "Die Tragödie des Menschen", received invitations to the "Federal meeting of youth clubs at theaters" in Mainz and Jena .

Michael Steindl has been the artistic director of the theater at the Duisburg Theater since 2004 . In 2005 he founded Spieltrieb - Jugendclub im Theater Duisburg , in which he regularly takes on projects as director, director and dramaturge.

Since 2008 he has been working continuously with the actor Michael Altmann.

In 2010 Steindl was awarded the honorary title “Citizen of the Year” by the Duisburg Carnival Main Committee.
