Life

Michael Welz was born in Sweden as the son of the Viennese sculptor and medalist Ferdinand Welz and the legal secretary Edith Welz. His parents emigrated there after the Second World War . In 1955 he came to Vienna when his father accepted a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He studied art history at the University of Vienna and attended a master class for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts .

At the beginning of the 1980s, Welz gave up the visual arts again. After a series of performance projects in public spaces, he took acting lessons and began working as an actor in Vienna's independent theater scene.

This was followed in 2005 the establishment of the group's time, with whom he Bruchstücke.Paarweise of Linde Prelog and Lederfresse with the chainsaw VRROOMMM of Helmut Krausser brought to the stage. The group also took part in the four episodes of the “Vollgas!” Series of the Das Off Theater , which he launched together with Ernst Kurt Weigel . He also wrote plays and directed.

In 2008 Michael Welz became a member of the Vienna Bernhard Ensemble of Grischka Voss and Ernst Kurt Weigel.
