Andreas Schmied

Andreas Schmied (* 1976 in Styria ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Andreas Schmied studied English and German in Graz . During his studies he directed, among other things, off-theaters and worked as a film editor and production manager. In 1997 he founded the film forge , with which he produced image and music videos, among other things. In 1998 he moved to Vienna , where he lives with his wife and son. 2001 saw the establishment of the Sofa Safari TV production with which he produced promotional videos and TV shows, among other things.

His feature film debut Die Werkstürmer (2013) with Michael Ostrowski and Hilde Dalik in the leading roles, for which he directed and for which he wrote the screenplay, was awarded the Audience Award in the category best foreign language film at the Austin Film Festival 2014. Schmied was also nominated for the Thomas Pluch Script Award for the script .

In spring 2017 he shot his first film from the Stadtkomödie series for ORF with Harri Pinter, Drecksau with Juergen Maurer in the title role . In 2017 he founded Samsara Filmproduktion GmbH . In summer 2018 he directed the film comedy Love Machine with Thomas Stipsits , Julia Edtmeier and Claudia Kottal in the leading roles, in autumn 2018 he staged his second city comedy with Curling for Eisenstadt for ORF. In 2019 he directed the film comedy Head Over Head with Miriam Fussenegger and Otto Jaus in the leading roles. As part of the Austrian Film Award 2020 , Love Machine was recognized as the most popular cinema film.

Andreas Schmied is married to the writer and screenwriter Elisabeth Schmied.
