The Michaelskapelle located on the the Büchelberg upstream Hallstatter height at Franken Brunn , a part of the in Unterfranken located market Oberthulba .

The chapel is one of the monuments of Frankenbrunn and is registered under the number D-6-72-139-18 in the Bavarian list of monuments . The Franconian Marienweg leads past the Michaelskapelle .

history

According to an inscription on an old wayside shrine from 1695, the story of prayer began when Gerhard Mohr from Hammelburg, due to a dream, found the wayside shrine in the bushes and had it raised again, because God was to be glorified there through pilgrimages. Miracle healings are reported in the episode. Times ago a godless hunter for the sun, the moon and this wayside shrine shot a free shot and shot through the tinny image, whereupon it bled and that was still visible after it was found again. The picture with the hunter had disappeared and was then replaced by a carved handkerchief of Veronica with the pleats she had suffered.

In 1709 the convert Josef Groß from Bensheim received permission to found a hermitage on the Hallstatter Höhe. He lived in a simple hut below the hill.

The chapel, built in 1718 and assigned on May 26, 1722 by Provost Franz von Calenberg (1721–1732), was consecrated to the Archangel Michael . The builder Josef Groß died in 1723 and was buried next to the altar. The inscription on the tombstone in Latin reads: ANNO 1723 THE 28TH FEBRUARY SEPULTUS EST VENERANDUS IN XTO FRAT. JOSEPHUS GROS EX PENSHEIM M ORD S FANC TERT EREMITA SACELLI OPERARI'S AETAT 38. PROFES 12. Provost Mauritius von Westphalen (1710–1721) occupied the hermitage in 1719 with brother Hilarion Balling from Müdesheim near Arnstein (Lower Franconia) after the death of Josef Gros Chapel took over. He died on July 24, 1784 and was buried in Thulba. Another hermit, Arsenius Fritz from Großlangheim , joined them around 1757 . After a dispute, he moved to Oberthulba as brother Georg in 1772. The hermitage has been vacant since 1784 and fell into disrepair.

building

The Michaelskapelle is a small, massive hall building with an octagonal choir, with a gable roof and turret. The entrance gate bears the year 1718, the year of construction and a small gate on the north facade leads directly to the chancel. Mary, Francis and Anthony of Padua are depicted on the altar. Fragments of the wayside shrine, votive tablets and sculptures of the painful Mother of God, Saint Joseph and Michael were also hung on the walls, but these are kept in Frankenbrunn after attempted break-ins. On the pilgrimage days, the little bell in the roof turret is rung by hand with the bell rope. The hermit's house with its clapboard cladding has recently been repaired.

Pilgrimages

In earlier times, the pastor of Thulba held services there three times a year, namely on the pilgrimage days on May 6th, on the feast of Michaelmas apparition on May 8th and on the festival of the Guardian Angel. For this purpose, processions moved there from the surrounding towns of Hetzlos , Frankenbrunn , the parish village of Thulba and Obererthal . Even today, the tradition of pilgrimages is to Kirchle maintained.
