Müdesheim is a district of the town of Arnstein in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart .

location

The village is located one kilometer west of Reuchelheim in the Wern valley on federal highway 26 .

history

Müdesheim was first mentioned in 889 in a deed of donation from the Fulda monastery as "Moutwinesheim". An earlier settlement during the Merovingian period has been proven by the partial excavation of a burial ground. In 1279 the place name appeared as the family name of the Lords of Müdesheim, the most famous bearer was the knight Ullrich von Müdesheim. To the southwest of Müdesheim and to the left of the Wern there was the town of Hintenach. It is said to have fallen desolately around the year 1500 - it is assumed to be extinct due to the plague .

On July 1, 1974, the previously independent community was incorporated into the town of Arnstein together with its Dattensoll district.

Others

Müdesheim used to be a winegrowing village with extensive vineyards. After viticulture was given up due to diseases, the place has been returning to this tradition since the 2000s.

Worth seeing is z. B. the Radegundis Chapel in the forest southeast of Müdesheim.

A son of the place is the inventor and adventurer Franz Leppich (1778-1819).
