Michal Konopka (born March 14, 1966 ) is a Czech chess player and coach who initially played for the Slovak Chess Federation after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.

Life

Konopka has held the title of International Master since 1988 . At the 1994 Chess Olympiad in Moscow, he was the coach of the Slovak women's team. From 2002 to 2011 he was the coach of the Czech national team at all chess Olympiads and European team championships, of which he has been the captain since 2013. Konopka trains, among other things, the grandmaster Viktor Láznička . In 2012 he published the non-fiction book "Magické pozice" (Magical Positions).

Konopka participated with the Czech national team in the 1998 Chess Olympiad in Elista and the Mitropa Cups in 1998, 1999, 2005, 2009 and 2015.

In the Slovak Extraliga Konopka played in the 1992/93 season for champions ELAI Bratislava , for whom he had already competed in the Czechoslovak team championship the previous season, from 1993 to 1995 for 1. ŠK Rimavská Sobota , with whom he became champions in 1995 , and from 2002 to 2004 for the ŠK Dunaj Bratislava .

In the Czech Extraliga Konopka played for the ŠK Vyšehrad from 1992 to 1996 , from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2016 to 2018 for the ŠK Pardubice , in the 1999/2000 season for the ŠK Sokol Kolín , and from 2000 to 2002 for the ŠK DP Holdia Prague , with whom he won the Czech team championship in 2001 and took part in the European Club Cup in the same year , from 2002 to 2006 for ŠK Mahrla Prague , from 2006 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2016 for TJ Zikuda Turnov , from 2009 to 2011 for the 2222 ŠK Polabiny , in the 2018/19 season for the second team of Siesta Solution Unichess and in the 2019/20 season for Slavia Kroměříž . In Germany Konopka has been playing for Schachfreunde Schöneck since 2000 , before he was active in the 2nd Bundesliga for SC Kreuzberg , SC Anhalt and the second team of SG Porz . In Hungary he played until 2003 and again in the 2016/17 season for the Csuti Antal SK Zalaegerszeg , with whom he became Hungarian team champion in 2002 and 2003 and took part in the European Club Cup four times in a row from 1993 to 1996.
