biography
Michalina Wisłocka was born as the eldest of three siblings into an intellectually well-off family. Her father, Jan Tymoteusz Braun, was a teacher at a primary school and later director of a secondary school in Lodz. Her mother also taught. Her brother Andrzej Braun , born in 1923, was a writer and poet, her brother Jan Braun , born in 1926, was a sumerologist and professor at the University of Łódź .
During the Second World War , the Braun family was deported to the General Government in Warsaw, where Wisłocka remained until the end of the war. On September 1, 1952, she was registered as a doctor in the Archives of the Medical Association of the Warsaw District, and on March 18, 1959, she became a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics . On April 24, 1969, she obtained a doctorate in human medicine from the Medical Academy in Warsaw .
Shortly thereafter, she became head of the cytodiagnostic laboratory at a maternity hospital.
In 1957, along with Zbigniew Lew-Starowicz , Kazimierz Imieliński & Mikołaj Kozakiewicz , she was the founder of the Polish Society for Family Development ("Towarzystwo Rozwoju Rodziny").
In addition to her work as a doctor, she began to write counselors and non-fiction books on sexuality. Wisłocka's most famous work, Sztuka kochania , was published in 1978 and became a bestseller with 7 million books sold. In addition to instructions on sexual practices, it also contains historical texts about love and love talk . Her book was reprinted in 2016 and an updated chapter on contraception was added to the new edition .
Sztuka kochania and her complete works are considered controversial today. In general, Wisłocka did an excellent job of educating people about sexuality in Poland. However, her view of sexuality is criticized from a feminist perspective, she paints a one-sided picture of women and men. Iza Desperak attributes her “conservative stance” on gender roles to the age in which the author grew up.

In the city of Lubniewice there is the "Park of Love" named after her.
