Michel Méranville

Gilbert Marie Michel Méranville (born February 4, 1936 in Le Vauclin , Martinique ) is retired Archbishop of Fort-de-France and Saint-Pierre .

Life

Michel Méranville studied theology at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome and accounting and computer science at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) in Paris. He was ordained a priest on December 20, 1959 for the diocese of Saint-Pierre et Fort-de-France.

After pastoral work in various parishes in Martinique, he worked for the French overseas ministry from 1966 to 1970. From 1974 to 1981 he was a military pastor and pastor in the prison of Fort-de-France. From 1981 to 2004 he was pastor of the Cathedral of Fort-de-France .

On November 14, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Saint-Pierre et Fort-de-France. The episcopal ordination on 18 April 2004 gave him his predecessor Maurice Marie-Sainte ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Basse-Terre , Ernest Mesmin Lucien Cabo , and the Bishop of Cayenne , Louis Sankalé .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 7, 2015.
