Louis Albert Joseph Roger Sankalé (born November 2, 1946 in Ndar , Senegal ) is Bishop Emeritus of Nice .

Life

Louis Sankalé was ordained a priest on September 18, 1976 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Cayenne on June 27, 1998 . The Archbishop of Marseille , Bernard Panafieu , ordained him episcopal on September 27 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Maurice Marie-Sainte , Archbishop of Fort-de-France and Saint Pierre , and Ernest Cabo , Bishop of Basse-Terre . As a motto he chose Et exaltavit humiles (German "and raises the lowly"), a passage from the Magnificat ( Lk 1.52  EU ).

On June 18, 2004, he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Nice , and on September 5 of the same year he was introduced to the office. After Jean Bonfils ' retirement from the SMA , he succeeded him on March 28, 2005 as Bishop of Nice.

Pope Francis accepted his resignation on August 8, 2013 for health reasons.
