Michel Roos (born August 27, 1932 in Strasbourg , † September 7, 2002 there ) was a French chess player .

Chess successes

Michel Roos was one of the strongest French players in the 1950s and 1960s. He won the 22nd French championship in correspondence chess in 1956/57 with a two point lead. At the French individual championship in 1958 in Le Touquet , he was tied with Claude Lemoine at the top, but had to give him the title due to the better Sonneborn-Berger rating . In 1964 Roos won the French championship in Montpellier . He played on the second board of the French team in the 1959 student team championship in Budapest .

Roos was a member of the Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg and achieved his best Elo rating of 2225 in January 1982.

Life and family

Michel Roos was a medical doctor who worked at the University of Strasbourg and was its vice-president. He was married to Jacqueline Roos (1930-2016), who carried the title of International Correspondence Chess Master. His four children are also chess players. The daughter Céline (* 1953) holds the title of International Women's Champion and took part in four women's chess Olympiads with Canada , winning the individual ranking on the second board in 1984 in Thessaloniki . The sons Jean-Luc (* 1955), Louis (* 1957) and Daniel (* 1959) are all international champions . Louis Roos became French champion in 1977, Louis and Daniel each took part in two Chess Olympiads with France, with Daniel Roos winning the individual ranking on the first reserve board at the 1982 Chess Olympiad in Lucerne .
