Mieczysław Augustyn (born August 19, 1955 in Lipka ) is a Polish politician ( PO ). He has been a member of the Senate of the Republic of Poland since 2005 (electoral terms VI. , VII. , VIII. And IX. ) In the Platforma Obywatelska parliamentary group .

Mieczysław Augustyn graduated in Polish Philology in 1978 with Janusz Maciejewski at the Faculty of Humanities of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan through Adam Mickiewicz and the year 1846 . He then worked as a teacher at a primary school in Piła until 1980 , was then head of the Caritas Polska office until 1990 and from 1990 to 2005 managed the social home " Jana Pawła II " in Piła.

From 1998 to 2005 Augustyn was City Councilor of the City of Piła, from 2002 to 2005 in the position of Chairman. In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2005 he ran for the VI. Senate of the Republic of Poland for the election committee KW Platforma Obywatelska RP in constituency No. 37 (2 seats). With 76,884 of the 221,995 (34.63%) valid votes cast, he achieved the most votes in the constituency. For his group, Platforma Obywatelska, he sat as vice chairman of the committee on regulation, ethics and senatorial affairs and the committee on family and social policy. In the early parliamentary elections in Poland in 2007 for the VII Senate of the Republic of Poland, Augustyn ran again for the election committee KW Platforma Obywatelska RP in constituency 37 (2 seats) and was able to win his election with 126,654 of the 300,511 (42.15%) valid votes cast from 2005 repeat. For his group he sat on the same committees again, this time as chairman of the committee on family and social policy and as a member of the committee on regulation, ethics and senatorial affairs.

For the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2011 , the constituencies for the election of the senators were reallocated and from multi-mandate constituencies to single-mandate constituencies. Augustyn stood here in the election to the VIII Senate of the Republic of Poland in the new constituency No. 88 for the election committee KW Platforma Obywatelska RP and won his mandate with 42.44% of the valid votes cast against the former mayor of Piła Zbigniew Kosmatka ( KW Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej , 19.06%) and the incumbent Senator Janusz Kubiak ( KW Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , 18.89%). For his group he was chairman of the Committee on Family, Seniors and Social Policy and a member of the Committee on Regulation, Ethics and Senatorial Affairs. In the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2015 , Augustyn was again able to vote for the IX. Senate of the Republic of Poland with 32.44% for the election committee KW Platforma Obywatelska RP against Janusz Kubiak ( KW Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , 28.75%) and defend his mandate. He was a member of the same committees as in the previous term and held the same positions within them.

In 1994 Augustyn founded the food bank in Piła and in 1996 the food bank Wielkopolskie , both of which he heads, and between 1996 and 2005 was a member of the board of the Federacja Polskich Banków Żywności (German Association of Polish Food Banks). He was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French President for strengthening Franco-Polish relations and his socio-political commitment .

Mieczysław Augustyn is a member of the Platforma Obywatelska Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej . He is married and has three children.
