Tenement houses and a factory building form the ensemble Fehrbelliner Strasse 47-49 in the Rosenthaler Vorstadt , a district in the Berlin district of Mitte . The buildings are located north of Volkspark am Weinberg between Elisabethkirchplatz and Zionskirchplatz .

The building complex is registered as an ensemble with the number 09011304 in the Berlin State Monument List.

history

The tenement houses on Fehrbelliner Strasse were built in the course of Hobrecht's development plan in the 1870s and are one of the few in the district whose original stucco facade has been preserved. Most of the buildings between and north of Elisabethkirchplatz and Zionskirchplatz were largely spared from war damage, but lost their facade decoration after the end of the Second World War . Between 1883 and 1890 a factory was built for the manufacturer Felix Schulze on the property behind houses 47 and 48 . It encloses an inner courtyard and documents the mixed use characteristic of the Rosenthal suburb at the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century, the factory was used by the Secura works for the production of precision and electromechanics.

Description of the individual buildings

  • Factory in the courtyard: the first transverse building has a closed, two-dimensional facade structure with relatively small window openings and a façade facing the residential courtyard and thus resembles a tenement house. The purpose as a factory only becomes clear in the later completed transverse and side wings, which show a pillar facade.
  • Fehrbelliner Straße 48 : the five-storey apartment building was built in 1876 for the factory owner August Donger and is also protected as a monument . The first floor should be emphasized with a window frame made of pilasters and arched roofing, which is adorned with fine figural and floral motifs.
  • Fehrbelliner Straße 49 : the house is also a monument and was completed in 1877 for the client Erik Mecklenburg. Due to a higher basement ceiling and a high jamb, it towers over the neighboring building by around one meter. The left window axis with the entrance is designed as a risalit . The windows on the upper floors are framed by pilasters and have triangular gables , segment gables and round arches as the crowning of the windows . The upper end of the façade is formed by a strong jamb floor with a protruding eaves cornice .
