Miguel Piazza , full name Miguel Ángel Piazza Rivera , (born August 29, 1952 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

Player career

society

The used as a full -back Piazza played for at least 1971 for the Montevidean club Sud América . In 1974 he worked for the Argentine club San Lorenzo . From 1975 to 1977 he was in the Nacionals squad . During this period, the Bolsos won the Uruguayan championship in 1977. He then worked for the Paraguayan club Olimpia in 1978 and 1979 . With the Paraguayans he celebrated winning the Copa Libertadores 1979 with his teammates in 1979 . He was also in the November 1979 final first leg against Malmö FF for the World Cup for Olimpia on the field, in which they kept the upper hand 1-0 away. His club secured this trophy the following year, as the second leg also went out in favor of Olimpia. Another station followed in Argentina in 1980 . This time the Newell's Old Boys were his employer. Towards the end of his active career he was at least 1981, according to other sources until 1984 still in Peñarol's ranks . With the Aurinegros he was not only Uruguayan champion of the year 1981, but he was also documented in the Copa Libertadores 1981 for use.

National team

Piazza was also a member of the Uruguayan junior national team , which took part in the 1971 South American Junior Championship in Paraguay and finished second. During the tournament he was used by coach Rodolfo Zamora once (no goal).

Coaching

He began his coaching career in 1986 with El Tanque Sisley . There he became master of the "C". He stayed there until 1987. In 1988 and 1990, Piazza twice took over the coaching position at the Racing Club in Montevideo. In between he led Basáñez to the championship in 1989 in the "C". In 1991 he was a trainer at Danubio . With Bella Vista he qualified as a coach in 1992 for the Copa Libertadores . In 1993 he was the training manager at Nacional. There he was replaced by Héctor Salvá for the last two championship games of the season . He then trained in 1996 and again after a break in 1997 for the Danubios team. In 1999 he won the unbeaten national championship with Olimpia. With this club he had already finished the Torneo Apertura victoriously at a stopover in 1995 . Again he coached racing from 2001 to 2002. From May 2004 to May 2005 he worked in this position at Centro Atlético Fénix . After taking a seven-year break from football, during which he only worked for Olimpia for two years, he again held the position of coach at the Uruguayan first division team Racing Club from October 2012 to December 2012.
