Mike Schlaich
Mike Schlaich (born April 19, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is a German civil engineer . He is a full professor at the Technical University of Berlin , Faculty VI, Institute of Civil Engineering, in the field of design and construction - solid construction. He is a test engineer for structural engineering and one of the managing partners of the engineering office schlaich bergermann partner (sbp GmbH) with headquarters in Stuttgart, branches in Berlin, New York, São Paulo, Shanghai and Paris.
Life
Schlaich is the son of Jörg Schlaich and grandson of Ludwig Schlaich . He began studying civil engineering in 1979 at the University of Stuttgart , after two years switched to the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1985 with a diploma. After that he worked until his dissertation Dr. sc. techn. 1989 as an assistant at the ETH Zurich with Professor Edoardo Anderheggen . In the following years he went to Spain and gained experience in an engineering office in Madrid . From 1993 he first worked as a project engineer at Schlaich Bergermann partner in Stuttgart and became a partner there in 1999. In 2004 Schlaich received a professorship at the TU Berlin. In the years before that, he held lectures on building with ropes as a lecturer at the ILEK Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart .

- Engineering award of the German steel construction 2015 for the roofing of the exit customer center, Autostadt Wolfsburg
- German bridge building award 2014 for the Gänsebachtal bridge
- German bridge building award 2010 for the Sassnitz pedestrian bridge
- Balthasar Neumann Prize 2008 for Monumento 11M, Madrid
- Engineering Prize 1998 for Glacis Bridge Ingolstadt
- Schinkel Prize 1992 for pedestrian bridge over the Spree in Berlin
- In 2015 he gave the Annual Lecture at the Henderson Colloquium of the IABSE (Elegance and Structural Engineering).
- In 2015 he received the gold medal from the Institution of Structural Engineers .
- In 2017 he became a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .
- In 2019 Schlaich was elected a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).
