Mike Werner (born February 13, 1971 in Spremberg ) is a former German soccer player and current coach. As a player, he was known for his classic mullet hairstyle.
Career
The man from Brandenburg played for Energie Cottbus and from 1984 for Vorwärts Frankfurt . With the Frankfurt team, he made his debut in the GDR league in the 1987/88 season at the age of 17 . After moving to FV Motor Eberswalde , he first played in the district league , and after promotion in 1990 in the GDR league .
During the winter break in 1991 Werner moved back to the league with Hansa Rostock . On the Baltic Sea, he played nine league games from 1991 to 1996 , two games in the Bundesliga and 100 games in the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he scored three goals. In the 1990/91 season he was the last East German champion and cup winner . His greatest success in the Bundesliga was sixth place with Hansa Rostock in the 1995/96 season .
After a cruciate ligament rupture , the 27-time national junior player had to end his career as a professional footballer in 1996. He later played for the lower-class TSV Graal-Müritz before moving to the TSG Neustrelitz club in 2001 . After the successful promotion Werner played 19 times in the league . After his departure in 2003, he moved on to PSV Ribnitz-Damgarten , whose first team he has been coaching since his final retirement in May 2005. In the meantime, the team has been promoted to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league under his leadership. At PSV he is also still active as a player in the old men’s team.
In June 2010 Mike Werner returned to Hansa Rostock as a voluntary youth trainer . In the winter of 2013, Werner hired as a coach at TSV Graal-Müritz in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional league . Since July 2017 he has been working as an assistant coach at FC Pommern Stralsund .
