Mike de Vries

Mike de Vries (born December 8, 1958 in Arnsberg ) is a German business manager specializing in brands and business development . Among other things, he was the managing director of the “Germany - Land of Ideas” initiative .
Career
De Vries graduated from the Academy of Fencing Art in Germany in Essen and Tauberbischofsheim as a qualified fencing master, another at the German Sport University Cologne as a qualified sports teacher. He completed international business studies in Germany and the USA ( Steinbeis University Berlin , DePaul University Chicago , Kelley School of Business, Indiana University) in 2005 as a Master of Business and Administration (MBA).
After positions as national coach at the German Association for Modern Pentathlon (1988–1993), sports director (1993–1996) and general secretary (1996–1998) at the German Hockey Association , de Vries became head of the sponsoring department and later headed the Bitburger brewery (1998-2003 ). As an authorized signatory, he was primarily responsible for the areas of marketing, public relations and public relations, sponsoring and event management. In addition, he was in charge of technical customer service and trade fair management. As part of his work, the integrated brand communication was developed with the focus on the Olympics, the German Football Association (DFB) and Formula 1. De Vries was the official press spokesman for the German House at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 . De Vries, member of the Association for Place Branding and Public Diplomacy, is a speaker and consultant for nation branding, destination marketing, strategic communication and brand management, including an associate partner at Embassy Berlin since 2011.
From 2012 to 2015 de Vries was Managing Director of Heidelberg Marketing GmbH. He realigned location marketing with an integrated marketing and communication concept and positioned the Heidelberg brand in the national and international market. In 2014 Heidelberg was named Baden-Württemberg's strongest city brand .
Since July 2015, de Vries has been CEO of ZhongDe Metal Group GmbH, a subsidiary of the Chinese metal association ZhongDe Metal Group Co., Ltd. This is the founder and operator of the German-Chinese lighthouse project “Sino-German Metal Eco City” (MEC).
