Mikhayl Assaf

Mikhayl Assaf (born October 27, 1887 in Damascus , Syria , † August 10, 1970 ) was the second Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Petra and Philadelphia in Jordan . He succeeded Archbishop Paolo Salman .

Life

Mikhayl Assaf was ordained a priest on July 20, 1912 . He received his appointment as Archbishop of Petra and Philadelphia on September 19, 1948, the ordination was on October 10, 1948. In his more than twenty years in office he was council father of the first two sessions of the Second Vatican Council . He consecrated Nicolas Naaman SMSP as Archbishop of Bosra and Hauran (Syria). He also assisted as Mitkonsekrator at Gabriel Abdou-Saada to the titular of Caesarea in Palestine dei Greco-Melkiti , Georges Haddad Archbishop of Tire ( Lebanon ), Giacomo Giuseppe Beltritti the Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Melkite Church and Neemeh Simann titular bishop of Termessus . He was succeeded by Saba Youakim .
