Saba Youakim

Saba Youakim BS (born June 2, 1914 in El Wardieh near Baalbek , Lebanon , † March 6, 2003 ) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Petra and Philadelphia in Jordan .

Life

Saba Youakim was ordained a religious priest of the Basilians by the Most Holy Redeemer on November 30, 1939 . Youakim, who was appointed archimandrite , had been the superior general of his religious community since 1968 . On September 9, 1968 he was named titular archbishop of Scythopolis and consecrated on September 29, 1968. He was ordained bishop by the Patriarch of Antioch , Maximos V. Hakim . As co-consecrators the archbishops served Eftimios Youakim BS of Zahle and Furzol and Nicolas Hajj SDS of Banyas .

On October 15, 1970 he was appointed Archbishop of Petra and Philadelphia in Jordan and succeeded Archbishop Mikhayl Assaf . On August 24, 1992, he resigned for reasons of age. His successor was Archbishop Georges El-Murr .

During his tenure he was a participant in the Second Vatican Council . He ordained Issam John Darwich as a priest and Anargyros Prindezis as a bishop . Furthermore, he was co-consecrator of Archbishop Michel Hakim of Saint-Sauveur de Montréal , Archbishop François Abou Mokh BS, auxiliary bishop in Antioch , Bishop Ercole Lupinacci of Lungro , later Patriarch of Antioch Gregory III. Laham BS and Archbishop André Haddad BS von Zahlé and Furzol.
