The Eparchia Saint-Sauveur de Montréal ( Latin Eparchia Sanctissimi Salvatoris Marianopolitansis Graecorum Melkitarum Catholicorum ) is a Melkite eparchy unified with the Roman Catholic Church and based in Montréal . The registered office is at the Cathédrale de Saint-Sauveur, 10025 blvd de l'Acadie, Montréal, Québec H4N 2S1.

history

Pope Paul VI founded the Apostolic Exarchate Canada with the Apostolic Constitution Qui benignissimo on April 9, 1968. With the Apostolic Constitution Beati Petri , it was elevated to an eparchy by Pope John Paul II on September 1, 1984 and received its current name. The eparchy is responsible for all Christians of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church living in Canada. About 39,000 Melkite Christians live in Canada. The name of the eparchy is derived from the French naming, Saint-Sauveur stands for the "Redeemer".

Congregations and orders

The eparchy includes the parishes in Québec , Ottawa , Toronto and Vancouver , as well as the provinces of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and the Canadian Lieutenancy of the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem .
