Ercole Lupinacci

Ercole Lupinacci (born November 23, 1933 in San Giorgio Albanese , Province of Cosenza , Italy ; † August 6, 2016 in San Cosmo Albanese ) was an Italian clergyman of the Italo-Albanian Church and bishop of the Piana degli Albanesi eparchy (1981–1987) and of the Lungro Eparchy (1987-2010).

Life

Ercole Lupinacci studied at the Pontifical Seminary Benedict XV. in Grottaferrata , which was under the direction of Byzantine monks, and at the Pontifical Greek College of St. Athanasius in Rome and at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He received on 22 November 1959 by Bishop Giovanni Mele in the Roman Church Sant'Atanasio the ordination for the Italo-Albanian Church. He was initially a chaplain in San Demetrio Corone and taught at the State University in San Demetrio Corone. He was also the diocesan assistant of the Catholic Action . In the early 1960s he became pastor of San Cosmo Albanese .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Piana degli Albanesi on March 25, 1981 . The Bishop of Lungro, Giovanni Stamati , ordained him episcopal on August 6 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Saba Youakim BS , Archbishop of Petra and Philadelphia , and Miroslav Stefan Marusyn , Apostolic Visitator of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Western Europe .

On November 30, 1987, he was appointed Bishop of Lungro. On August 10, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.

He was committed to the dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
