San Cosmo Albanese (in Arbëresh , IPA : [ ar'bəreʃ ] : Striàri ) is an Italian municipality founded by Arbëresh ( IPA : [ar'bəreʃ] ) in the province of Cosenza in Calabria with 601 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

The municipality of San Cosmo Albanese (Bashkia e Striàri) has had a municipal partnership ( Unione Arbëria ) with four other Arbëresh municipalities in the province of Cosenza: San Demetrio Corone , San Giorgio Albanese , Santa Sofia d'Epiro and Vaccarizzo Albanese since 2004 .

Location and dates

The area of the municipality is at an altitude of 407 meters above sea level and covers an area of fourteen square kilometers. San Cosmo Albanese is about 66 kilometers north of Cosenza . The neighboring municipalities are Acri , Corigliano-Rossano , San Demetrio Corone , San Giorgio Albanese and Vaccarizzo Albanese .

A Basilian monastery belonging to the SS. Cosma e Damiano was first mentioned in 1088. Albanian refugees ( Arbëresh ) settled the area in 1470.
