Attractions

In the historic center of Rocca Imperiale are the ruins of a fort from the 13th century, which was built by the Hohenstaufen emperor Friedrich II . This castle was expanded and rebuilt several times between the 15th and 17th centuries. Efforts have been underway for a number of years to use EU funds to carry out restoration work.

Rocca Imperiale Marina is closer to the sea (200-300 meters from the sea, the historical part about 4 km), on the coast of the Ionian Sea . The beach is around 7 km long. Mainly, along the Lungo-Mare there are stone / pebble beaches, which are occasionally interrupted by sandy beaches (towards the campsite). Like practically every village, Rocca Imperiale Marina has a 'Lungo-Mare', a promenade, in addition to a piazza in the center. In summer, various concerts take place in Rocca Imperiale or Rocca Imperiale Marina.

Paese dei limoni ... (Country / Municipality of Lemons). Even today there are numerous lemon trees / plantations in this beautiful place. A large part of this fruit used to grow where the new Rocca Imperiale with the addition Marina (for sea) was created. You can follow the signposted path of the lemons. Not only lemons grow well in this region. Orange and mandarin trees, olive groves, vegetables and vines, from which light and fruity wines are made, especially in the vicinity (Nova Siri). The variety of products and the proximity to the sea are reflected in the rich, varied, light cuisine of the region.

In Rocca Imperiale Marina there is also the 'magazzino', which was built in the 18th century (1731) by order of Duke Fabio Crivelli. It served not only as a warehouse, but also as a market, but is not freely accessible these days. The art of the craft can also be recognized by the partly collapsed, complex roof structure (beams). In the immediate vicinity is an impressive square watchtower from the 16th century. The two buildings demonstrate the importance of Rocca Imperiale in the field of trade and as a strategic location.
