Frascineto (in Arbëresh : Frasnita ) is one of Arbëresh ( IPA : [⁠ ar'bəreʃ ⁠] ), founded Italian municipality in the province of Cosenza in Calabria with 1,979 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Frascineto is about 71 km north of Cosenza on the southern side of the Pollino National Park . Fraction of Frascineto is the Ejanina founded by Arbëresh (in Arbëresh: Purçilli ). The neighboring communities are Cassano allo Ionio , Castrovillari and the Arbëresh place Civita (in Arbëresh: Çifti ).

The community is located directly on the A3 / E 45 motorway . The exit is called Castrovillari - Frascineto.

The place was founded by Arbëresh in 1490 .

The religion

The parish church, which is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta (Greek Kìmisis = Dormition of the Theotokos, Mary) belongs to the Italo-Albanian church in the Lungro eparchy and is therefore directly subordinate to the Holy See . The sacred liturgy and the spiritual songs are in Greek and in Arbëresh.

Regular events

  • On the Tuesday after Easter, the Vallet tradition (folkloric representation of one's own linguistic and cultural identity) renews the victory of the Albanian general and national hero Georg Kastrioti, known as Skanderbeg, over the Ottomans .
