Morano Calabro is an Italian municipality in the province of Cosenza in Calabria with 4262 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful places in Italy).

Morano Calabro is located about 51 km north of Cosenza on the upper reaches of the Coscile River on a hill within sight of the Pollino massif and south of the Pollino National Park.

The neighboring communities are Castrovillari , Mormanno , Rotonda ( PZ ), San Basile , Saracena and Viggianello (PZ).

The castle

Morano is dominated by the ruins of a castle built during the Norman rule in the early Middle Ages. It was later razed and rebuilt in the 16th century. The castle has recently been largely restored. Today it is accessible and can be used for events. Numerous artists have settled in Morano who have revived the partially abandoned place and are responsible for numerous original details in the narrow streets.

The church of San Bernadino dates from the 15th century and is part of a monastery. The monastery was founded in 1452. Inside there are numerous art objects such as a winged altar from the 15th century.

The Magdalenkirche (Collegiata della Maddalena) comes from the Byzantine era. The church was built in the Baroque style in the 16th century and rebuilt in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Inside are paintings by Antonio Sarnelli and Francesco Lopez .

The Museo di Storia dell 'Agricoltura e della Pastorizia shows a collection of agriculture in the area of ​​Morano Calabro.
