Luzzi is an Italian commune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region with 9095 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Luzzi is located 28 km north of Cosenza .

The neighboring municipalities are Acri , Bisignano , Lattarico , Montalto Uffugo and Rose .

Attractions

The Abbazia di Sambucina , the first founding of a Cistercian monastery in Calabria, is located on the territory of the municipality . Santa Maria della Matina is a former Benedictine monastery , it is located north of the Abbazia di Sambucina. The monastery has now been converted into a country house and has lost its original appearance.

A church from 1166 was rebuilt in the 17th century.

The community is known nationwide for the annual races held at the end of September for the national championship in the hill climb discipline . The route leads from Luzzi up to the Sila Mountains and is part of the TIVM - Trofeo Italiano Velocità Montagna.
