Mikheil Janelidze ( Georgian მიხეილ ჯანელიძე ; born March 29, 1981 in Kutaisi , Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Georgian politician who was Foreign Minister between 2015 and 2018 and also Vice Prime Minister from 2017 to 2018.

Life

After attending school, which he completed between 1996 and 1997 at the Hochwald-Gymnasium in Wadern , Mikheil Janelidse began studying international relations at the State University of Tbilisi , which he completed with a bachelor's degree in 2002 . He then completed postgraduate studies in international law and European law at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Federation in Moscow between 2003 and 2006 . He then worked as a manager in the private sector, developing and advising companies in the fields of international trade and investment. In 2009 he joined the public service and was initially head of the Foreign Trade and International Economic Affairs department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development. He also completed postgraduate studies in Business Administration at the Grenoble Ecole Management belonging Grenoble Graduate School of Business (GGSB), which he in 2011 with a Master of Business Administration graduated (MBA) with distinction. In addition, he was awarded the Order of Merit in 2011 for his outstanding services in the development of foreign trade and international economic relations in Georgia.

After his return, Janelidze became Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development in 2011 and held the position of chief negotiator in negotiations on Georgia's trade relations with the European Union as well as chairman of the government commission for external economic relations. In September 2015 he took over the post as First Vice Foreign Minister. As such, he was responsible in particular for relations with the USA and Canada , but also for foreign economic policy.

On December 30, 2015, Mikheil Janelidze was appointed foreign minister in his government by Prime Minister Giorgi Kwirikashvili, succeeding Kvirikashvili , who was previously foreign minister. In 2017 he also became Vice Prime Minister. He held the post of Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister until the resignation of Prime Minister Giorgi Kwirikashvili on June 13, 2018.

Mikheil Janelidse is married and has one daughter.
