Ekaterine (Eka) Tqeschelaschwili ( Georgian ეკატერინე (ეკა) ტყეშელაშვილი ; born May 23, 1977 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician and lawyer. From 2007 to 2008 she was Minister of Justice, then Attorney General of Georgia, and from May to December 2008 Georgian Foreign Minister. Since December 2008 she has been a member of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Life

Eka Tqeschelashvili studied at the Institute for International Law and International Relations at Tbilisi State University . After completing her studies in 1997, she initially worked at the Center for Political Research and Analysis in the Georgian Foreign Ministry, and from 1998 also worked as a lawyer at the International Committee of the Red Cross . In 2001 she moved to New York for five months , where she worked for the Legal Committee for Human Rights. In May 2002 she was an intern at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia , then returned to Georgia as Deputy Director of IRIS Georgia .

In February 2004, President Mikheil Saakashvili appointed her Deputy Minister of Justice. In September 2005 she became Deputy Minister of the Interior. In May 2006 she moved to the Tbilisi Court of Appeal as presiding judge . She was Minister of Justice from August 2007 to January 2008, then became Georgia's Attorney General for three months. On May 5, 2008, the Georgian parliament elected her as Foreign Minister of Georgia on Saakashvili's proposal. She was released from office on December 5 of the same year. In the same month she became a member of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Tqeschelashvili is married and has one child. She speaks Georgian, English, Russian and French.
