Miklos Baron Vay de Vaja (born April 29, 1802 in Alsózsolca , † May 14, 1894 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician and large landowner .

Origin and family environment

Miklos (Nikolaus) Baron Vay de Vaja came from a family of the Hungarian nobility who had lived in the upper Tisza region since 1120 . He belonged to the baron branch of the sex, which on April 18, 1783 with Miklos (Nikolaus) Baron Vay de Vaja was raised to the Hungarian baronage ( baronate ). He was born on April 29, 1802 in Alsózsolca in Borsod County. His parents were the KuK treasurer , Hungarian major general and member of the state parliament Miklos Baron Vay de Vaja (1756-1824) and his wife Johanna Freiin von Adelsheim (1776-1863).

Life and career

Miklos Vay de Vaja was a large Hungarian landowner who, due to his inherited wealth, had the prospect of a prominent political career from birth. He was the landlord of numerous Hungarian landlords: a. Golop, Talya, Kisfalud and Mezözombor estates in Zemplen county, Tiszalök, Kotaj and Nadudvar estates in Szabolcs county, Zsaka, Böcs, Hidkös and Bakonszeg estates in Bihar county .

He was first KuK chamberlain, then real privy councilor . In addition to these court and administrative offices, he became a member of the Hungarian magnate house and eventually its president. He also rose further in the Hungarian state administration: He became a judge of the September Viral Court, Kgl. Hungarian governor and finally high chancellor of the Kingdom of Hungary .

In addition to these state offices, he also worked in local government. He became vice span of Zemblen County and Obergespan (a kind of district administrator) of Borsod County. Another honor was his appointment as crown guardian. He was General Inspector of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Tisza Region and President of the Evangelical Reformed General Convention of Hungary.

He was married to Katharina Freiin von Geymüller (1809–1880) since April 13, 1828. The marriage resulted in two sons.
