Mikrokosmos is the fifth album by the German hip-hop group 257ers . It is the first album to be released as a duo. It was released on July 1, 2016 via the Düsseldorf label Selfmade Records .

background

In autumn 2014 the 257ers released their first album, Boomshakkalakka , which reached number 1 in the German charts. After they presented this on a concert tour, the trio reappeared on the Chronik 3 sampler . On May 20, 2016, the announcement of the fifth album under the title "Mikrokosmos" for July 1st. At the same time the cover was presented and Alexis Troy named as executive producer.

In mid-June, the group announced that Keule had left the 257ers. After the first songs of the new album had already been recorded, the rapper decided not to record any more music in the future and to devote himself more to his family. Mike and Shneezin then discarded the previous pieces and started work all over again.

Due to the many different musical styles of the album, according to Shneezin, a title was sought that describes the " central theme of the album, that no song goes with the other ". The actual idea to call the album “Mikrokosmos” was finally expressed by the band's tour manager.

criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated Mikrokosmos with four out of a possible five points. From the point of view of the editor Dani Fromm, the collaboration with Alexis Troy is a “ huge gain ” for the publication. So let this “ expand the musical cosmos in all imaginable directions. Mike and Shneezin may have been “ stuck in their anal phase, ” but more likely “ they are just faking it. "Even the" completely stupid Denglish orgy " Out Of Se Window reveals through" language, vocabulary, images and above all their commitment "that the rappers are" by no means the most nailed representatives of their craft ". Furthermore, " over the confused content and the unrestrained silly staging " cannot escape " what unassailable good rap technique " microcosm can offer.

In a review of the Rap.de website, the editor Skinny describes the duo's music as “ too rowdy, too hectic, too silly. “This is a“ musical potpourri ”, which becomes clear from the numerous influences. So it is unpredictable “ whether there are reggae and jazz elements, as in“ Wood ”, rock'n'roll sounds in“ Mama ”or a drum & bass touch in“ Jibbitbong beer ”. "Alexis Troy managed to initiate a change" in the previously purely synthetic, stubborn sound of the 257ers. "The two Essenes present themselves as" outstanding rappers [who] tower above a large part of the local rap landscape from a purely technical point of view ". Lyrically the songs have “ a common thread ”, which is “ mostly completely banal ”. In summary, Mikrokosmos is “a really good album from the appropriate perspective […] ”, but not for “ people with a clear mind. "
