Karate Andi (* in Lower Saxony as Jan Salzmann ) is a German rapper from Göttingen. Since 2014 he is the German hip-hop - Label Self Made Records under contract.

Career

Karate Andi comes from the small town of Hardegsen in Lower Saxony , but began his rap career in Göttingen as Monty Burns , which he later shelved for a short time. He then moved to Berlin-Neukölln via Leipzig . After he had not performed publicly for several years, he took part regularly in the hip-hop event Rap on Wednesday from 2012 under the pseudonym Karate Andi . His pseudonym has nothing to do with the former pimp Andreas Marquardt , who is also called "Karate Andy".

In 2014 his debut album Pilsator Platin was released , named after the beer type Pilsator . The album was produced by 7inch . and reached number 24 on the German album charts.

On the album Freie Schwarzmarkt Wirtschaft by Plusmacher from 2014 he was involved in the piece Bockwurst , on the follow-up album The Harvest from 2016 in the piece Mit Senf , and on the 2018 album Hustlebach in the piece Im Brötchen .

On July 16, 2014 Selfmade Records officially announced that they had signed Karate Andi.

His second solo album Turbo was released on May 13, 2016 .

His third solo album ASAP KOTTI was released on November 29, 2019 .

Music genre

Karate Andi does hard battlerap in the style of the old MOR or West Berlin masculine as well as newer influences such as Trailerpark . The texts are mostly provocative and anti-social . They are very fixated on punchlines and contain allusions to the lower class lifestyle and pub culture, mixed with the four elements of hip-hop ( breakdancing , DJing , rap and graffiti ).
