The Mikuni World Stadium Kitakyūshū ( Japanese ミ ク ニ ワ ー ル ド ス タ ジ ア ム 北九州 , Mikuni Wārudo Sutajiamu Kitakyūshū ) is a rugby and football stadium in the Japanese city of Kitakyūshū , Fukuoka Prefecture , on the island of Kyūshū . The 15,066-seat facility is the home of the Giravanz Kitakyūshū football club , which currently plays in the J3 League . The Mikuni company has secured the naming rights for a total of ¥ 30 million (around EUR 250,000 ) for three years .

history

The first plans for the stadium date back to 2010, when Giravanz Kitakyūshū first rose to the J2 League . Originally, the sports facility should have 10,000 seats. In the course of the planning, the capacity was increased to 15,000 visitors in order to be able to play games there in the event of promotion to the J1 League . In addition, the possibility of expanding to 20,000 places was provided. A site near the city center was selected as the location. There was previously a parking space there. The Kitakyūshū International Conference Center is adjacent in the southern neighborhood . Directly behind the uncovered opposite stand to the east is Kammon Street , a sea route between the main islands of Honshū ( Yamaguchi Prefecture ) and Kyūshū (Fukuoka Prefecture). In order to be able to build the stadium in the parking lot, the road next to the site had to be relocated to the west. Construction started on April 16, 2015 and took less than two years. The sports facility was inaugurated on February 18, 2017 with a benefit rugby game. The footballers from Giravanz Kitakyūshū competed against Blaublitz Akita for the actual opening on March 12th . The teams parted on the first day of the 2017 season in front of 14,935 spectators with a 1-1 draw.

The spectators enter the stadium via a ramp system. Home fans mainly use the south and west side, but also the north side of the guest fans. Generous sidewalks run around the sports facility. The water side in the east was left out due to lack of space. Mikuni World Stadium Kitakyushu is the only known stadium with an official fishing ban. The front row of the narrow-cut playing field is only eight meters away from the playing field. The height of the boundary to the lawn is just 65 cm . The LED - floodlight system makes a light intensity of 1,500 lux . It significantly reduces power consumption in contrast to a conventional system with headlights. The stadium was constructed to withstand high wind speeds and earthquakes. The grandstand roofs are designed so that they can be equipped with photovoltaic systems. The construction costs were supposed to remain below ten billion yen, but the costs rose due to the roofing of the back-door stands in the north and south, which was not planned beforehand. Ultimately, the final price was ¥ 10.7 billion. To the budget contributed u. a. the national lottery and private companies from the Fukuoka area. There are few parking spaces available at the stadium, but it is only a six-minute walk to Kokura station . The train station is u. a. Stop on the high-speed line Sanyō Shinkansen with the high-speed train Shinkansen .
