The Milá (German Millayer Berg ) is a prominent, single mountain of the so-called Launer part in the Bohemian Central Uplands in the Czech Republic . The Milá nature reserve has existed since 1958 .

Origin of the name

The mountain was named after the nearby village of Milá ( Millay ).

Location and surroundings

The Milá is located 10 km north of Louny ( Laun ) and 10 km southeast of Most ( Brüx ). The small village Milá ( Millay ) is located directly at the foot . To the north is the municipality of Bělušice ( Bieloschitz ) with the district Odolice ( Wodolitz ).

natural reserve

Because of its unique flora and fauna, the mountain was placed under protection as a nature reserve on 19.96 hectares in 1958.

The mountain is famous above all for its extremely rich and unique spring flora. For some plant species, the mountain represents the western limit of distribution. The difference in plant communities between the south and north sides is remarkable. While the shady north side is planted with a sparse, low deciduous forest, the sun-exposed south side is largely bare and overgrown with only a few bushes.

The mountain is also home to rare animal species that are threatened with extinction. The occurrence of the eagle owl in the rock faces of the south side is noteworthy. The area north of the mountain is home to a herd of European mouflons , a wild sheep imported from Corsica . For these reasons, the mountain is a total reserve ; entering the nature reserve is only permitted on the marked trails.

Paths to the summit

  • The mountain lies on the blue- marked hiking route from Most to Louny, and a junction leads to the summit.
  • The villages Milá and Bělušice at the foot of the mountain are also good starting points. About the above Hiking route, the summit can be reached in around half an hour.
