Milan Šamko (* 1946 in Leipzig ; † end of December 2019 ) was a German pianist and keyboardist . In the 1970s he became a sought-after studio musician in the GDR .

Live and act

Šamko studied piano and composition at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin . From the mid-1960s, jazz and blues became more and more of his passion. He devoted himself primarily to playing the music and listening to his favorite classics by Herbie Hancock , Miles Davis or Keith Jarrett . Samko now advanced through his very own style of writing pieces and improvising to become a jazz musician. He worked "in many varieties of jazz", as a soloist on the Hammond organ as well as in the radio big band.

In addition to his appearances in bands he often accompanied since GDR times the Diseuse Sonja Kehler - both on stage and for the record -, most recently for a CD with new Else Lasker-Schüler - musical settings .

Samko, who last lived near Potsdam and gave piano lessons there, has belonged to the blues band Pass Over Blues since the mid-1990s . He also played in the Honky Tonk Duo , with whom he could also be heard at the Perugia Jazz Festival , and performed with old friends such as Wolfgang “Zicke” Schneider , Konny Körner , Harro Hübner and Horst “Verti” Melzer.
