Milivoj Karakašević

Milivoj Karakašević (born July 30, 1948 ) is a former Yugoslav table tennis player and trainer from the 1970s and 1980s. He won several Balkan championships and was European champion with the team in 1976. He is the father of national player Aleksandar Karakašević .

Career

Milivoj Karakašević started playing table tennis when he was 14. On the recommendation of his coach Gajić, he played penholder style.

Milivoj Karakašević achieved his first international success in the late 1960s. He won the Balkan Championships with the Yugoslav team in 1968 and the Mediterranean Championships in 1969, where he also reached the final in a mixed with Maria Louka. From 1969 to 1980 he won 18 medals at the Balkan Championships: six gold with the team, three gold in doubles and 1972 gold in singles. There are also seven second places and one participation in the semi-finals.

In 1977 he won the championship of Yugoslavia in singles and doubles with Zoran Kosanović .

From 1970 to 1982 Milivoj Karakašević took part in all seven European championships . In 1978 he reached the semi-finals in doubles with Zoran Kosanović, which was lost to the Germans Jochen Leiß / Peter Stellwag . In the team competition he was European champion in 1976 and second behind Sweden in 1970 and 1972 . In 1974 there was bronze.

He has been nominated for world championships five times . Here he and the team won two medals, namely bronze in 1971 and silver in 1975 .

After the end of his active career, Milivoj Karakašević worked from 1989 to 2001 as national coach for Yugoslavia and Serbia. Under his leadership, Yugoslavia was runner-up in 1991 .

Activities in Germany

In 1981, Milivoj Karakašević moved from STK Vojvodina Novi Sad to the German Bundesliga club TTC Herbornseelbach . However, he could not prevent relegation at the end of the 1981/82 season to the 2nd Bundesliga. A year later the ascent took place again. When the team had to relegate in 1984, he joined the TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm . Other club stations were Valkenswaard (Netherlands) and Partizan Belgrade.

Private

Milivoj Karakašević is married and has two sons. He is an agricultural engineer by profession. Today (2012) he lives in Zemun , a district of Belgrade.
