Milena "Milka" Babović (born October 27, 1928 in Skopje , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian sprint and hurdle runner and a retired journalist . She won numerous sprint events in the former Yugoslavia and was voted best athlete several times. She also had a formidable career as a sports journalist and editor on television.
Babović was born in Skopje and grew up in Sarajevo , but moved to Ruma and Belgrade while still at school . She graduated from the University of Zagreb with a degree in education . After doing sports in Ruma, she went to Mladost in Zagreb and started taking part in sprint competitions. From 1953 she won the Yugoslav national title in the disciplines 100 m (once), 80 m hurdles (seven times), 4 × 100 m relay (seven times) and 4 × 200 m relay (twice). She set several Yugoslav sprint records and won two international student competitions over 80 m hurdles in 1953 and 1957; at the European Championships in 1954 , she was fifth. In the Sportske novosti award vote, she was voted the best athlete in Croatia three times and the best athlete Yugoslavia twice.
From 1949 she worked as a sports journalist in Narodni sports and switched to television in Zagreb in 1957 , where she became the first sports editor. She held this position, with a four-year hiatus, until 1975. She was multiple chairwoman of the sports journalists' section of the Croatian Union of Journalists, was a member of the Yugoslav Olympic Committee and was once a member of the Executive Council of the City Council of Zagreb.
Babović was awarded a silver wreath in 1974 by the Journalists' Association, in 1977 by the City of Zagreb and in 1979 by the Yugoslav Order for Fraternity and Unity.
