Milo Lockett

Milo Lockett (born December 1, 1967 in Resistencia , Argentina ) is an Argentine painter , printmaker and wall painter .

Career

Lockett did not attend art school but taught himself to paint self-taught at. His career started in the early 2000s after initially working in the textile industry for a few years (textile printing).

He was best known for his oversized paintings, which he created in hospitals and schools in poor neighborhoods. In particular, his wall painting on the Abasto de Buenos Aires , which spans almost the entire historical building, made him very popular in Argentina.

After his unique style, consisting of naive and childish elements, colored and bright with a high recognition factor, became increasingly known, he cooperated with companies such as Coca-Cola , Nestle , City Bank , Hyundai , and American Express to exclusively sell some of the company's products to design. In cooperation with LG, for example, Lockett produced its largest work to date at Buenos Aires-Ezeiza Airport .

In 2017, at the request of the Mayor of Miami, Tomas Regalado , Lockett painted a wall typical of the district in the Wynwood Art District and donated it to the city of Miami.

In addition to clothing, Lockett now also designs backpacks, glasses and art objects.

He also works as an illustrator , so he illustrated works e.g. B. by Leonardo Moledo or Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince (2015).

In cooperation with several investors, Lockett has already opened three bars and restaurants with the name "Milo" in Argentina, the interior of which is completely based on the typical Lockett style, and was also designed by him.

Awards

Lockett received several awards in Argentina, including a regional award from the Espacio de Arte Fundación OSDE in 2005 for his work "El Aguaraguazú quiere unos Mimos".

In 2006 he received the arteBA-Petrobas-Prize of the contemporary art fair ArteBA in Buenos Aires and in 2008 the first prize for painting of the LXXXV Salón Anual Nacional de Santa Fe. Lockett's career, according to his own statement, experienced a tremendous upswing due to the media presence associated with the award, particularly through the award of the arteBA Petrobras Prize. 

In 2009 Lockett was voted "Artist of the Year" in Argentina together with Léon Ferrari .

On August 17, 2017, Lockett was appointed Cultural Ambassador of Argentina by the Argentine Ambassador Marcelo Martín Giusto, due to his services to Argentine art and culture in the USA.

Trivia

Lockett describes himself as a philanthropist. Every year he donates around 40 of his pictures for charity auctions. He has also worked with UNICEF on the "One Minute for my rights" campaign and supports campaigns for HIV prevention.

Lockett's social commitment is now so pronounced that he is mentioned in the book "Accounting for Violence: Marketing Memory in Latin America (The Cultures and Practice of Violence)" by Leigh A. Payne , published by Duke University Press Books. It was particularly about his artistic commitment to the " Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo ". He was also interviewed on the same topic in "Encyclopedia of Social Movement Media" by John DH Downing , published in 2011 by "SAGE Reference" Verlag.

His collectors include a. Jennifer Aniston , who has already acquired two of his paintings.
