Miquel Crusafont i Pairó (born October 3, 1910 in Sabadell , Spain ; † August 15, 1983 ibid) was a Catalan paleontologist who specialized in the bones of mammals .

Crusafont obtained a licentiate in pharmacy from the University of Barcelona in 1933 and a licentiate in natural sciences from the University of Madrid in 1950 .

In 1961 he was unanimously appointed to the chair of paleontology at the University of Oviedo . He later took on the post of professor of anthropology at the Societatis Iesu (Barcelona).

His main works include Los Vertebrados del Mioceno Continental de la cuenca del Vallés-Penedés (1943, with Josep Fernández de Villalta), El Mioceno Continental del Vallès y sus yacimientos de vertebrados (1948, with Josep Fernández de Villalta), El Burdigaliense continental de la cuenca del Vallès-Penedès (1955, with Josep Fernández de Villalta and Jaume Truyols), Estudios Masterométricos en la evolución de los Fisípedos (1957, with Jaume Truyols) and La Evolución (1966, with Bermudo Meléndez and Emiliano Aguirre).

In 1969 he founded the Provincial Institute for Paleontology , which has been known as the Miquel Crusafont Institute for Paleontology since 1983 . The tasks of this institute were transferred in 2006 to the successor organization Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont .

The prehistoric mammal Crusafontia is named after him.
