Since its first public presentation in 1978 at the Kunsthaus Aarau , national and international exhibitions have followed. a. Drawing Center in New York, the Kunsthalle Basel , the Kunstmuseum Basel , the graphic collection of the ETH Zurich , in 2001 she had her first major solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Musée Jenisch in Vevey.

Mireille Gros lives in Basel and Paris .

Working method

Mireille Gros seeks flowing transitions between media and processes. Works are created individually, in series or as work research, even over years or decades. Neither theory, concept nor a specific idea serve as a starting point. All ideas are kept on the same level without giving preference to a particular idea in order to be open to the course of nature as long as possible. She herself describes her way of working, inspired by a stay in China, as "Inborn Nature", the inner nature that is innate. In addition to the question of the origins and processes of nature, her works are shaped by travels, a longer stay on the Ivory Coast, followed by travel grants to Mali and China.

"Fictional Plants" (since 1993)

Since her first stay in the last primary forest in West Africa, in the Parc national de Taï , in the Ivory Coast , since experiencing the diverse and much greater biodiversity than the European one, since becoming aware of this threatened fragility, Mireille Gros has been inventing her own plant species. While at least one plant species dies out every day, Mireille Gros lets fictional, drawn plants grow on different types of paper with her work cycle Fictional Plants .

«Archives intimes» (1987-2018)

Over the course of 30 years, a large number of 144 numbered small books were created from photographs, card and paper clippings, dried plants, drawings and watercolors. This fund is not only used to store impressions and personal mementos, but is also an important source of inspiration that she draws on again and again.

«My books draw from the chaos or at least emerge unintentionally and deliberately. A kind of order arises when the decision is made: should I stick these pictures in the books or throw them away? Although these decisions are made rather subconsciously, over a certain period of time I notice that there are similar images that I keep, that a kind of new order has been created. "
